Happy Holidays from JTCC
Posted on December 07, 2012
As you will see in our 2012 Holiday Greeting, the past year has been an exciting one at John Tyler Community College. The new year will be one of transition as a new president comes on board. For the first time in twenty-three years, I will no longer have the opportunity to introduce our holiday greeting to all our many friends. I certainly thank all of you for your support of the institution and of me over the years and solicit your continued support. Our Foundation provides over 100 scholarships annually, but cannot meet the requests on hand by a like number. That gap deserves your consideration. The College itself, now the fifth largest in our System, teaches over 10,000 students each semester and concurrently makes every effort to support the greater good of the communities for which we are responsible, including economic development and workforce training. We change lives for the better on a daily basis. The College is, and has been, a responsive institution, sensitive to ever-changing regional needs and individual needs.
It is difficult to chronicle how much I have appreciated your collegiality and your friendship over the years and what a source of professional and personal fulfillment my interactions with you have been. As Sheila and I look forward to a new phase of life, it is clear that my time at John Tyler will remain the focal point of my working life. I thank you all, and I wish only the best for the College in the years ahead.
With warm regards,
Dr. Marshall W. Smith, President
John Tyler Community College
