Summer registration starts April 7, so make an appointment now with your academic advisor to plan your summer schedule and discuss your career goals. Not attending in summer? The Fall 2014 schedule will be online at www.jtcc.edu/schedule by the end of March, so April is a great time to plan ahead with your academic advisor.
Benefits of Advising
Advising is one of the most important benefits offered to students of John Tyler Community College, and connecting with your advisor is important for your academic success. Faculty advisors can help you:
- Assess your interests, abilities, and career goals
- Select the courses required to complete your degree
- Develop strategies to be successful in the college environment and beyond
- Make full use of the resources and facilities available at John Tyler
A faculty advisor's assistance is especially important to first-year students and to those who have not yet declared a course of study; however, advisors also have an important role for students who have already decided on a course of study. A faculty advisor will help you determine which courses to take to earn the degree or certificate of your choice, and if your goal is to transfer to a four year college or university, advisors will help you with that too.
New and continuing students: You should make an appointment to meet with your advisor each semester prior to registration. Your advisor will help guide you along your course of study by helping you determine which courses to take to earn the degree or certificate of your choice, and if your goal is to transfer to a four year college or university, advisors will help you with that too.
