Well, fall 2008 is finally over. I hope everyone had a good semester!
Next semester we have a few big events including our New York trip on March 27th-29th. Remember that you must be considered an active member of the Art Club by completing four fundraiser shifts to get the discount for the trip. If you would like to come to New York at the active member rate, be sure to check on your membership status early next year and participate in the fundraisers that you need. The club arranges transport and housing at a steep discount for our members; you only need to cover your food and activity expenses.
We also have Fool for Art held on Saturday, April 18 at the Midlothian campus of the collage. It’s a great opportunity for the club to interact with members of the pubic and others at the school. This year the college is also running the Revive Community Challenge that challenges groups to create environmentally green items for auction during Fool for Art. The club may elect to participate in the Revive Community Challenge, which raises funds for scholarships at John Tyler.
Don’t forget that we have several chances to display your art work in the spring semester. First, the college’s Sherwood Literary Review accepts art and literary works for a publication that “highlight[s] the creativity and talent of John Tyler”; the deadline for submissions to the publication is January 23. Later in the semester, the art department will hold its annual juried art show, which is a terrific opportunity for John Tyler students to display work and win prizes. And finally, the college operates the Gateway Outreach Center in Petersburg which is another opportunity for the college’s students to gain exposure for their works.
Wow, it looks like it is going to be a big semester coming up! I hope you all have a great break. See you next semester!
Sincerely,
Ian Glass
