Accessing Blackboard 6
 

How do I locate my Blackboard username?

As a student in the Virginia Community College System (VCCS), you have the following five VCCS accounts:

1. JTpassport -- the student registration system, (also known as "SIS8" and "PeopleSoft")
2. VIVA -- the library database
3. Blackboard
4. VCCS Student Email
5. My.VCCS website

The "My.VCCS" website allows you to locate your account information. If you do not already know your account information, please go to the My.VCCS site and click “Look up your username”.  (If you receive a Security Alert, click "Yes".)  You will need to provide your first and last names, your date of birth, and either your social security number or your EmplID.  If the information that you provide on the form does not exactly match what the JTCC Admissions office has listed, you will not be able to access your account information.  (If you are unable to locate your information, please contact the JTpassport Helpdesk at jtpassporthelpdesk@jtcc.edu for assistance.)

Your "username" and your “EmplID” will be displayed.  The username is what you will use for Blackboard, VIVA, My.VCCS, and your VCCS student email account. The seven-digit EmplID is what you will use if you login directly to JTpassport through https://sa.vccs.edu.  Please refer to the example below.

A student, John Tyler, received the following information when he completed the form: 

Username	EmplID	Email	Institution
jtyler9999	1234567	jtyler9999@email.vccs.edu	John Tyler

To access his five VCCS accounts, John Tyler will use either the "Username" or the "EmplID".

1. JTpassport -- Use the "EmplID" -- 1234567
2. VIVA -- Use the "Username" -- jtyler9999
3. Blackboard -- Use the "Username" -- jtyler9999
4. VCCS Student Email -- The "Username" is used to log in, jtyler9999, but his email address will be as follows:  jtyler9999@email.vccs.edu
5. My.VCCS website -- Use the "Username" -- jtyler9999

If you are taking courses at more than one Virginia community college, you may have different usernames for each college. Also, you may receive a different username each semester, so you should locate your current information at the beginning of each semester.

What is my Blackboard password?

You will use the same password for all five of your VCCS accounts. If you need to change your password, log into the My.VCCS site and then "Reset Your Password".  Once you change your password, it will be changed for all five of your accounts.

How do I access Blackboard?
First, make sure that you have set up your Internet browser as mentioned on the Technical Requirements page before accessing Blackboard.

Go to the Blackboard 6 site, (http://learn.vccs.edu).  (You may wish to add this page to your Internet browser's Favorites or Bookmarks.)  You will see a screen similar to the one below.
 

Enter your Blackboard username and password in the appropriate areas and then click the "Login" button. You should see a page similar to the one below, although the colors and the tabs, (i.e. "JTCC", "Learn", "Student Connect", "Research", "Help", etc.), might be different.  Click the different tabs to discover information relevant to the college and your course.
