Listen as local artist, SPCA supporter and John Tyler alumna Karen Gammon reads her book, Dogs and Cats with Tales, created to tell the stories of animals at the Richmond SPCA. Says Karen, “This labor of love was inspired by my animal subjects, many of whom have overcome incredible odds just to survive. I am passionately dedicated to telling the stories of those who cannot speak for themselves, and forever grateful to those who work to protect them.” The first 100 people to attend the readings will receive a free copy of the book.

Join the Great Big Greenhouse’s Doug Hensel as he explores strong trends in gardening such as composting; using more organic and eco-friendly products; a renewed interest in growing vegetables and fruits; landscaping using more native plants; container gardening; and Beautiful Gardens, a new Virginia plant introduction program.
- A Monarch’s Journey Book Reading and Dramatization– Library
Local author and kindergarten teacher Judy Nickels will read her book A Monarch’s Journey, which describes the lifecycle of the Monarch butterfly in child-friendly verse. A short butterfly demonstration will follow, featuring child actors from Chesterfield County elementary schools. Science and poetry for the entire family!

Kiss the Blarney Stone, see the Cliffs of Moher, shop at Waterford Crystal, stay at Trinity College, walk on the beach at Galway Bay, trace the steps of James Joyce in Dublin, hear the words of W. B. Yeats, stay in a tiny Irish village, and attend a performance of Riverdance. Through pictures, sound, and memorabilia, the Emerald Isle will come alive during this presentation.
