Art of Learning Tent
The Art of Learning Tent was packed with hands-on activities related to art, science, travel, health and more. Attendees could:
- Create a Picasso-inspired work of art with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
- Be a young paleontologist, and participate in a dino dig. Excavate with special tools, and see what you find.
- Lights, camera, YOU! Step into the "love learning" studio, and tell the world about it.
- Learn about chemistry for a sustainable world. See demonstrations and displays, including the electrocution of pickles, solar panels, wind power and water filtration.
- Bust germs with the College's nursing faculty and students. Plus, free blood pressure screenings for adults and coloring books for children.
- Learn how to grow your own healthy foods, and start your own garden with a free tomato plant.
- Tap into the power of nature as you make snow, a tornado and fog.
- Design your own hat, and learn how your creation can tell a story.
- Shoot for the stars when you make your own rocket.
- See if you can identify certain bones, and reconstruct a human skeleton.
- Create a special button featuring your favorite animal, book or place.
- Where are germs hiding? Everywhere! Learn about the ubiquity of microorganisms.
- Create a beach in a bottle.
- Find inspiration in poetry, and then decorate your own journal.
- Test your skills in wax as you learn about restorative art techniques from our funeral services faculty.
- Learn emergency medical services and how you can save lives with CPR and first aid.
- Shoot and score in the hockey puck shoot-out for kids.
- Start the spring off right when you design your own sun visor.
- Slime, superballs and spaghetti – oh my!
- Match fossils to animals and rocks to their landscape.
- Pick your chalk color, then hammer and mix away, until you have created your own environmentally-friendly paint.
- Create a beautiful butterfly using chromatography.
- Turn recycled materials into a robot.
- Go international and explore the culture and history of other countries with the History Club. Use papyrus and hieroglyphic stamps to create a book about Egypt.
- What Color is Your Parachute? Visit with the Community College Workforce Alliance, and spin the prize wheel.
- Follow the evidence, and test your CSI skills.
- Art meets industry. See how the two meld.
- Strengthen your community connections with the Human Services Club.
