Engineering and Engineering Technologies Scholarships

American Society of Highway Engineers – Old Dominion Section Scholarship
(Scholarship ID Number 2063-001)

The American Society of Highway Engineers – Old Dominion Section Scholarship is developed to assist a student enrolled in the engineering degree at John Tyler Community College with the cost of tuition, books and fees.

The following criteria must be met:

  • Complete a scholarship application.
  • Must maintain at least a 2.5 grade point average (GPA) while enrolled.
  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student at John Tyler Community College.
  • Must be enrolled in the Engineering (AS) degree program.
  • Must demonstrate some financial need.
  • Must have completed at least 30 credits toward degree.
  • Preference will be given to students who have received the scholarship in the past.

Aqualon Hercules Endowed Scholarship 
(Scholarship ID Number 6012)

The Aqualon Hercules Endowed Scholarship is designed to assist Hercules employees or their dependents in pursuing an education at John Tyler Community College. The scholarship will be used towards the cost of tuition, books and fees.

Eligibility criteria include:

  • Completion of a scholarship application.
  • Must maintain at least a 2.8 grade point average (GPA) while enrolled, or for incoming freshman, must have graduated from high school with at least a 2.8 GPA.
  • May be enrolled as either a full-time or part-time student at John Tyler Community College.

The Bryce Jewett, Sr. Memorial Scholarship
(Scholarship ID Number 2040)

The Bryce Jewett, Sr. Memorial Scholarship is in memory of Bryce Jewett, Sr. who worked 56 years in the machine shop and engineering profession.  The scholarship is primarily for employees and dependents of employees at Jewett Machine Manufacturing and Jewett Automation.  If there are no employee or dependent applicants, the scholarship will be awarded to an engineering student at John Tyler Community College.  The $500 ($250 per semester) scholarship is for tuition and books.

Eligibility criteria include:

  • Completion of a scholarship application.
  • Must maintain a 2.7 grade point average (GPA).
  • Must be enrolled as either a full-time or part-time student at John Tyler Community College.
  • Must demonstrate some financial need.
  • Preference will be given to Jewett Machine or Jewett Automation employees and/or family members.
  • Must be enrolled in one of the engineering technologies programs.

Carl Zeiss Endowed Scholarship

The Carl Zeiss Endowed Scholarship is designed to assist students enrolled at John Tyler Community College with tuition, books and fees.

Eligibility criteria include:

  • Completion of a scholarship application
  • Must maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) while enrolled, or for incoming freshman, must have graduated from high school with at least a 3.0 GPA.
  • May be enrolled as a full-time or part-time student at John Tyler Community College.
  • Preference will be given first to students enrolled in the Visual Arts – Photography and Film Specialization (AAA) and then to students enrolled in Engineering (AS).
  • Must demonstrate some financial need.

Charles Schley Memorial Scholarship
(Scholarship ID Number 2063-002)

The Charles Schley Memorial Scholarship is developed by Colonial Heights American Legion Post 284 in memory of Charles Schley. Mr. Schley was a dedicated John Tyler Community College employee for 17 years and a past Commander of Post 284. The annual scholarship is designed to assist a student enrolled in an engineering technologies program at John Tyler Community College with the cost of tuition, books and fees.

Eligibility criteria include:

  • Completion of a scholarship application.
  • Must maintain a 2.5 grade point average (GPA) while enrolled, or for incoming freshman, must have graduated from high school with at least a 2.5 GPA.
  • May be enrolled as either a full-time or part-time student at John Tyler Community College.
  • Must be enrolled in one of the following programs: Engineering (AS), Architectural Engineering Technology (AAS), Mechanical Engineering Technology (AAS), Mechanical Engineering Technology – Mechatronics Technician Specialization (AAS), Technical Studies (AAS), Technical Studies – Electronics and Instrumentation Track (AAS), Technical Studies – Mechanical Maintenance Track (AAS), Technical Studies – Precision Machining Track (AAS), or Technical Studies – Welding Track (AAS).

Chesterfield County Scholarship

The Chesterfield County Scholarships are established to help John Tyler Community College students, who live in Chesterfield County, with the cost of tuition, books and fees.

Eligibility criteria include:

  • Completion of a scholarship application.
  • Must maintain a 3.2 grade point average (GPA) while enrolled, or for incoming freshman, must have graduated from high school with at least a 3.2 GPA.
  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student at John Tyler Community College.
  • Preference will be given to students majoring in the following programs: Police Science (AAS), Early Childhood Development (AAS), Early Childhood Development – Teacher Assistant Specialization (AAS), Transfer Degree (AS, AA), or EMT’s returning for a Nursing (AAS) degree.
  • Must live in Chesterfield County.

DuPont Polyester Endowed Scholarship

The DuPont Endowed Scholarship is designed to assist a student, pursuing an education at John Tyler Community College, with tuition, books and fees.

The following criteria must be met:

  • Complete a scholarship application.
  • Must maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) while enrolled, or for incoming freshman, have graduated from high school with at least a 3.0 GPA.
  • May be enrolled either as a full or part-time student at John Tyler Community College.

Edwin D. Jordan Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The Edwin D. Jordan Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established in July 2003 by his wife, Nicole M. Jordan, in memory of Mr. Jordan. Mr. Jordan was a mathematics professor and original member of the John Tyler Community College faculty, serving for 36 years until his passing in June 2003.

The Edwin D. Jordan Memorial Scholarship is established to assist John Tyler Community College students, enrolled in a transfer degree program, with tuition, books and fees.

Eligibility criteria include:

  • Completion of a scholarship application.
  • Must maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) while enrolled, or for incoming freshman, must have graduated from high school with at least a 3.0 GPA.
  • May be enrolled as a full-time or part-time student at John Tyler Community College.
  • Must be enrolled in a transfer degree program (AA, AS).
  • Must have plans to transfer to a four-year college or university.
  • Must need no more than 20 credit hours to complete a degree.

Grohusky Engineering Annual Scholarship
(Scholarship ID Number 2063)

The Grohusky Engineering Annual Scholarship is designed to assist students enrolled in the engineering program at John Tyler Community College with tuition, books and fees.

Eligibility criteria include:

  • Completion of a scholarship application
  • Must be enrolled full-time or part-time at John Tyler Community College in one of the engineering academic degree programs.
  • Must maintain at least a 3.2 GPA while enrolled.
  • Must have completed at least 30 credit hours prior to the receipt of the scholarship, including CHM 111/112, MTH 174, and EGR 140.
  • Must demonstrate some financial need.
  • Preference will be given to students pursuing a career in chemical engineering.

International Society for Measurement and Control, ISA, Richmond-Hopewell Section Engineering Technologies
(Scholarship ID Number 2008)

The Richmond-Hopewell Section of the International Society for Measurement and Control was founded in 1956 by Mr. Brett White of Allied Chemical and Mr. William Reynolds of Hopewell, Virginia, hence the name of "Richmond-Hopewell.” As the Section grew, it became more involved in the community and decided that scholarships should be awarded to deserving engineering students. The scholarship is designed to assist a student enrolled at John Tyler Community College with the cost of tuition, books and fees.

Eligibility criteria include:

  • Completion of a scholarship application.
  • Must maintain at least a 2.7 cumulative grade point average (GPA) while enrolled.
  • May be enrolled as either a full-time or part-time student at John Tyler Community College.

The Philip Morris Career & Technical Scholarship is designed to assist a student, enrolled in a technical program at John Tyler Community College, with tuition, books and fees.

Eligibility criteria include:

  • Completion of a scholarship application.
  • Must maintain at least a 2.8 grade point average (GPA) while enrolled, or for incoming freshman, must have graduated from high school with at least a 2.8 GPA.
  • May be enrolled as either a full-time or part-time student at John Tyler Community College.

Preston and Ann Leake Endowed Scholarship
(Scholarship ID Number 6034-002)

The Preston H. and Ann K. Leake Endowed Scholarship is established to assist students enrolled in any arts and science for transfer degree (except speech and theatre).  The purpose of the scholarship is to assist students who wish to transfer to four-year institutions and is available regardless of national test scores.  The scholarship will assist a John Tyler Community College student with tuition, books and fees.

The following criteria must be met:

  • Must complete a scholarship application.
  • Must maintain at least a 2.8 grade point average (GPA) while enrolled, or for incoming freshman, have graduated from high school with at least a 2.8 GPA.
  • May be enrolled either as a full or part-time student at John Tyler Community College.
  • Preference will be given first to a student enrolled in a transfer degree program (AS or AA, except Liberal Arts – Theatre Arts Specialization).
  • Must demonstrate some financial need.
