The Direct Student Loan Program

Beginning with the 2009/2010 academic year, John Tyler Community College will participate exclusively in the Federal Direct Student Loan Program which includes Subsidized Student Loans, Unsubsidized Student Loans and Parent Loans. John Tyler previously participated in the Federal Family Educational Loan Program (FFELP) and students were required to choose a private lender. The Federal Government is the lender in the Direct Student Loan Program. Students and parents interested in federal student and parent loans will be required to apply through the Direct Student Loan Program and complete new master promissory notes.

Semester Application Start Date Application End Date
Fall Semester July 1 October 1 (Priority)
Spring Semester July 1 March 1 (Priority)
Summer Semester March 1 June 1 (Priority)

How to Apply for a Direct Student Loan:

To apply for a Direct Student Loan, students must meet basic eligibility criteria and complete the following steps:

  1. Complete Direct Student Loan Entrance Counseling.
  2. Complete a Direct Student Loan Master Promissory Note.
  3. Print a Loan Request Form at www.jtcc.edu/finaidforms. Complete the form and submit it to the Financial Aid Office via mail, fax or in-person.

How to Apply for a Direct Parent Loan

To apply for a Direct Parent Student Loan, students must meet basic eligibility criteria, and parents must complete the following steps:

  1. Complete the Direct Parent Loan Promissory Note.
  2. Print a Direct Parent PLUS Loan Request Form at www.jtcc.edu/finaidforms. Complete the form and submit it to the Financial Aid Office via mail, fax or in-person.
