The system's mission is to provide comprehensive higher education and workforce training programs and services of superior quality, that are financially and geographically accessible, and that meet individual, business, and community needs of the Commonwealth.

Accreditation

John Tyler Community College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097; 404-679-4500) to award associate degrees, certificates and career studies certificates. The associate degrees also have been approved by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia. The Commission on Colleges should be contacted for accreditation-related issues only. All other inquiries should be directed to the Dean of Student Services (13101 Jefferson Davis Highway, Chester, VA 23831-5316 ; 804-706-5208;804-594-1566).

The Funeral Services Program at John Tyler Community College is accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE), 3432 Ashland Avenue, Ste. U., St. Joseph, MO , 64506, 816-233-3747, Web: www.abfse.org. It is also approved by the State Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers.

The Nursing Program is approved by the Virginia State Board of Nursing and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (61 Broadway, 33rd Floor, New York, New York 10006; 212-363-5555, ext. 153).

The Emergency Medical Services Programs are approved by the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services.
