Summer Financial Aid

If you were awarded financial aid during the 2008-2009 academic year, you may pick up an orange Summer Financial Aid Application from the Admission & Records, Counseling, or Financial Aid offices on or after April 1, 2009. The application can also be downloaded here. If requested, an application can be mailed to you by one of the office above.

Since the summer semester is our final term of the 2008-2009 aid year, you must have a 2008-2009 FAFSA on file with the Financial Aid Office in order to be eligible for summer financial aid. If you are unsure, check your personal records or contact the Financial Aid Office to verify that you have completed this step. New students may submit a Summer Financial Aid Application once their financial aid file is complete with their 2008/2009 FAFSA and all other requested information.

In order to be evaluated for summer financial aid, you will need to first register for your summer courses. Then, you should complete the Summer Financial Aid Application and return it to the Financial Aid Office within the same week that you register for classes.

Limited Aid

It is important to apply early for financial aid for the summer semester. Since the summer semester is at the end of our financial aid year, we have limited funds available. As a result, our main goal is to assist students with tuition and fees only (if possible). Federal Pell Grant and Federal Stafford Loan recipients will be awarded any unused 2008-2009 funds based on summer enrolled hours.

Summer 2009 Financial Aid Process

  • First, register for summer courses. Registration begins April 13, 2009.
  • Download the Summer Financial Aid Application from this web page, or pick up a copy from one of the offices listed above.
  • Complete your Summer Financial Aid Application and submit it to the Financial Aid Office immediately for processing.
  • If your Summer Financial Aid Application is received within the same week that you register, your aid application will be evaluated by the end of that same week, and you will be sent an award notice detailing your eligibility.
  • Your financial aid will typically be awarded within a week of your aid application submission. Unlike the fall and spring semesters, your original summer award(s) will be based on the amount of credits that you actually register for.
  • If your financial aid eligibility is not sufficient to cover your entire balance due for tuition and fees, you must pay the remaining balance by 5:00 p.m. on Friday of the week that you register to avoid being dropped from your courses for nonpayment. It is important that you check your student account in myTyler to compare your financial aid award against your tuition and fees.
  • If you are not eligible for any grant funds, you will be sent a notification and will be provided with the option to apply for a Federal Stafford Loan. Your Federal Stafford Loan application must also be submitted within the same week that you register for classes to guarantee processing by the end of the same week.
  • If you are not interested in applying for a loan or you are not eligible, you need to be prepared to pay for your course(s) by 5:00 p.m. on Friday of the week that you register to avoid being dropped from your courses for nonpayment.
  • If you have sufficient aid to purchase books, bookstore charging will begin at the bookstore on Tuesday, May 19. You must be awarded your financial aid before you begin charging books.
  • If you are not meeting satisfactory academic progress (SAP) standards after Spring 2009 grades are posted, your financial aid awards will be canceled for the Summer 2009 term. You would then be notified of the need to pay the balance due on your student account to ensure that your course(s) will not be dropped for nonpayment.
