Summer Financial Aid

If you were awarded financial aid during the 2009-2010 academic year, you may pick up a green Summer Financial Aid Application from the Financial Aid Office on or after March 11, 2010. The application can also be downloaded here. If requested, an application can be mailed to you.

Since the summer semester is our final term of the 2009-2010 aid year, you must have a 2009/2010 FAFSA on file with the Financial Aid Office in order to be eligible for summer financial aid. If you are unsure, check your personal records or contact the Financial Aid Office to verify that you have completed this step. New students may submit a Summer Financial Aid Application once their financial aid file is complete with their 2009/2010 FAFSA and all other requested information.

Limited Aid

It is important to apply early for financial aid for the summer semester. Since the summer semester is at the end of our financial aid year, we have limited grant funds available. As a result, our main goal is to assist students with tuition and fees only (if possible). Federal Pell Grant and Federal Stafford Loan recipients will be awarded based on summer enrolled hours if eligible.

Summer 2010 Financial Aid Process

  • First, complete the 2009/2010 FAFSA if you have not already done so.
  • Download the Summer Financial Aid Application from this web page, or pick up a copy from the Financial Aid Office.
  • Complete your Summer Financial Aid Application and submit it to the Financial Aid Office immediately for processing.
  • Register for summer courses. Registration begins April 5, 2010.
  • Your financial aid will typically be awarded within five business days of your aid application submission. Unlike the fall and spring semesters, your original summer award(s) will be based on the amount of credits that you actually register for. After you have been awarded, you will sent an award notice via your JTCC student email account.
  • If your financial aid eligibility is not sufficient to cover your entire balance due for tuition and fees, you must pay the remaining balance by 5:00 p.m. on Friday of the week that you register to avoid being dropped from your courses for nonpayment. It is important that you check your student account in myTyler to compare your financial aid award against your tuition and fees.
  • If you are not eligible for any grant funds, you will be sent an email notification and will be provided with the option to apply for a Federal Stafford Loan. Your Federal Stafford Loan application must be submitted at least 3 days before the tuition due date to allow the Financial Aid Office time to process your loan application.
  • If you are not interested in applying for a loan or you are not eligible, you need to be prepared to pay for your course(s) by 5:00 p.m. on Friday of the week that you register to avoid being dropped from your courses for nonpayment.
  • If you have sufficient aid to purchase books, bookstore charging will begin at the Bookstore on Monday, May 17, 2010. You must be awarded your financial aid before you begin charging books.
  • If you are not meeting satisfactory academic progress (SAP) standards after Spring 2010 grades are posted, your financial aid awards will be canceled for the Summer 2010 term. You will be responsible for paying any resulting balance by the tuition due date.
