Library Services
In addition to housing our books, videos, periodicals, the Library at John Tyler offers computer labs, study/meeting rooms and research assistance. Our services and offerings include:

Circulation – Instructions on how to obtain a library card, check out books and avoid fines.

Research Assistance – Library staff are happy to provide research assistance in the Library, and they have also compiled useful information on accessing databases from remote computers, interlibrary loan and class-specific recommended research tools.

Interlibrary Loan – Students, faculty, and staff may use interlibrary loan ( ILL) to obtain materials not available in the John Tyler Library.

Requests may be placed at either campus Library and should include full bibliographic information. ILL materials usually arrive in 7-10 days. Due dates and renewal guidelines are set by the lending Library and must be strictly observed.

The ILL Coordinator is Peter McTague, Chester Campus Library, 804-706-5198 or pmctague@jtcc.edu.

Audio Books - Download audio books to your home computer or personal mobile device. Some titles may also be burned to a CD.

Services for Faculty - The Library offers a number of services to faculty, including bibliographic classroom sessions, videos and DVDs for classroom use, and extended borrowing privileges.

Ask a Librarian – Ask a Librarian is a live-support feature that connects students with a librarian from one of Virginia’s community colleges.

Connect for Success - VCCS Connect for Success is modeled after Go for the Gold, a set of instructional modules designed by reference staff at James Madison University to teach students basic information-seeking skills. The program shows users how to find and evaluate information in the Library, in databases, or on the Internet. To try it for yourself, visit the VCCS Connect for Success web site.

Computing – The Chester campus library and the Collaborative Learning Center (the computer lab adjoining the library) have 68 computers. The Midlothian campus library has 110+ computers. All computers access the research databases and are provided with standard Microsoft application software. The Midlothian Library also provides students with facilities for scanning and CD burning.
