With myTyler, students only need one login and password to access Blackboard, the Student Information System and VCCS student e-mail. When you change your password, please remember that all passwords must meet certain requirements. You must:
- Choose a password that is between 7 and 10 characters long. If you enter more than 10 characters, only the first 10 will be accepted. This means that if you enter 12 characters, you may think that all 12 were accepted. Then, when you try to log in to myTyler, you will receive an error message when you enter all 12 characters; you can only enter the first 10.
- Include at least one uppercase letter, at least one lowercase letter, and at least one number in your password. Do not use any symbols or spaces.
- Remember that the password is case-sensitive. For example, if you use an uppercase letter in your password and then enter the password with all lowercase letters when you access myTyler, you will receive an error message.
- Not choose a new password that is the same as your VCCS username, and it cannot contain any part of your VCCS username. For example, if John Smith’s username is jas123, his password cannot have the letters “jas” beside each other as they are in his username; those letters can still appear in the password, but not in that order.
- Not use a password that you used in the past.
- Not choose a password that someone can guess. Do not use names or nicknames of people, pets, places or personal information that can be easily found out, such as your address, birthday or hobbies. Create passwords that are easy for you to remember but hard for others to guess.
Please also remember:
- There may be a delay from the time the password is changed until it flows through to all of the systems. Usually the password change is immediate, but it could take up to 30 minutes before you are able to use your new password.
- After changing your password, you may receive an error message the first time that you log in to myTyler. If so, please try again to log in. Typically, you will be able to access the program the second or even the third time that you attempt to log in.
- You may have more than one VCCS ID if you are enrolled in more than one VCCS college, if you applied using a different name in the past, or if you have ever taken a workforce development course offered through a VCCS college. If you have more than one VCCS ID, changing the password for one of your accounts could automatically change the password for the other account as well. So, if you are unable to access your second account with its password, try using your new password.
