To log in to myTyler, you will need your username, for example jtyler9999, that was assigned to you. You will also need your VCCS password.
Username
If you do not know your username and need to look it up, please complete our online help form.
Attention JTpassport users: JTpassport was used by the College for many years as the secure, self-service area where students could enroll in and drop classes, pay their tuition and fees, request unofficial transcripts, view their grades, and much more. However, JTpassport required a separate login from Blackboard and VCCS Student E-mail. Students often confused their username, which they used for Blackboard their VCCS Student E-mail, with their user ID (emplID), which they used to log in to JTpassport.
Now, myTyler brings the functionality of the Student Information System, Blackboard and VCCS Student E-mail together and allows students to access these three functions with a single login – a student’s username.
Password
Staff and faculty use one password for all of their VCCS Enterprise Services at the College managed through myTyler. When you are a new employee, the first time you log in, you will be prompted to change your password immediately for security purposes. The system will direct you to change your password and select a security question. You will need to complete this process and set your password before you can access your accounts.
How do I change my VCCS password?
- Go to the myTyler portal.
- Click “Reset your password.”
- Enter the requested information in the four textboxes. Click the “Search” button.
If you receive an error message, try again to enter your information. Your replies must exactly match the most recent information that the College has for you. If you continue to receive an error, please complete the online help form.
- If you have already created a security question and answer, you will be taken to the “Security Question” page. (If you haven’t yet created a security question, please go to the next step.) Enter your answer to the security question in the textbox and click the “Submit” button.
If your answer does not exactly match what you provided earlier, you will receive a message saying that your information cannot be verified. Please return to the first step and try again. If you need assistance, please complete the online help form.
- Choose a new password based on the requirements below. You will enter your new password in the first two textboxes on the page. (See image above.)
Password requirements
- Choose a password between 7 and 10 characters long. If you enter more than 10 characters, only the first 10 will be accepted. This means that if you enter 12 characters, you may think that all 12 were accepted. Then, when you try to log in to myTyler, you will receive an error message when you enter all 12 characters; you can only enter the first 10.
- The password must include at least one uppercase letter, at least one lowercase letter, and at least one number. Do not use any symbols or spaces.
- The password is case-sensitive. For example, if you use an uppercase letter in your password and then enter the password with all lowercase letters when you access myTyler, you will receive an error message.
- Your new password cannot be the same as your VCCS username and it cannot contain any part of your VCCS username. For example, if John Smith’s username is jas123, his password cannot have the letters “jas” beside each other as they are in his username; those letters can still appear in the password, but not in that order.
- Do not use a password that you used in the past.
- Do not choose a password that someone can guess. Do not use names or nicknames of people, pets, places or personal information that can be easily found out, such as your address, birthday or hobbies. Create passwords that are easy for you to remember but hard for others to guess.
- If you haven’t already chosen a security question, either click on one of the five sample questions on the right side of the screen or enter your own question in the “Question” textbox. Enter a reply to your question in the “Answer” textbox. You will be asked for the answer to your question the next time that you change your password, so make sure to choose an answer that you will remember. You will also need to exactly replicate your answer when you change your password in the future.
If you have already chosen a security question, the “Question” and “Answer” textboxes will be filled in. You can change your information or keep it as it is.
(Please note that this step can be bypassed if a staff member from the helpdesk resets your password.)
- Click the “Next” button.
- You should receive a confirmation page stating that your password was “successfully changed.” This page will also provide your username and your seven-digit user ID (emplID). It is important that you print this page or write down this information. You will need it to log in to myTyler. Try your new password by clicking the “please log in” link at the bottom of the page.
If you do not receive the confirmation page and are taken directly to the login page, your new password may not have been saved and might not work. If it doesn’t work, please complete the online help form.
- Enter your username, (as shown on the confirmation page), in the “My Username” textbox. (Do not enter your seven-digit user ID (EmplID).) Enter your new password in the “My Password” box. Click the “Log In” button.
Additional information
- There may be a delay from the time the password is changed until it flows through to all of the systems. Usually the password change is immediate, but it could take up to 30 minutes before you are able to use your new password.
- After changing your password, you may receive an error message the first time that you log in to myTyler. If so, please try again to log in. Typically, you will be able to access the program the second or even the third time that you attempt to log in.
- You may have more than one VCCS ID if you are enrolled in more than one VCCS college, if you applied using a different name in the past, or if you have ever taken a workforce development course offered through a VCCS college. If you have more than one VCCS ID, changing the password for one of your accounts could automatically change the password for the other account as well. So, if you are unable to access your second account with its password, try using your new password.
