    2012 Summer Study
    Ancient Greece: In the Footsteps of Gods and HeroesJune 21 - July 8, 2012

    Join John Tyler Community College for a summer study program to Greece. From ancient ruins and landmarks to art, mythology and literature, experience how Greek culture and history influenced the modern world. The courses offered are: The Ancient World, Topics in Greek Philosophy, and Interdisciplinary Principles of Humanities. Students and faculty from throughout the VCCS are encouraged to participate by enrolling in one or more classes.

    2012 Summer Study
    Hawaii: Adventures in Nursing, Nutrition and TechnologyMay 29 – June 9, 2012

    Immerse yourself in another culture without leaving the United States. Explore Hawaii and its rich history, unique natural beauty and multicultural society with roots in Polynesia, Asia, North America and Europe. No passport required. The following hybrid courses will be offered: Transcultural Nursing and Healthcare Provision for Multicultural Communities, Principles of Nutrition and Human Development, and Introduction to Computer Systems.

  • Ghana Trip
    2011 VaCIE-VCCS International Exchange
    GhanaMay 14 – 29, 2011

    John Tyler Community College faculty traveled to Ghana, West Africa in a two week exchange program. Hosted at Sunyani Polytechnic in the city of Sunyani, they immersed themselves in college life and Ghanaian culture. The adventure continued by touring cultural and historic places like Kakum National Park, the Elmina Slave Fort, Kumasi and Accra.

  • Italy Trip
    2011 Summer Study
    ItalyMay 21 - June 5, 2011

    John Tyler Community College went to Italy. Students and faculty traveled a cultural timeline from antiquity through the Baroque period, with visits to Rome, Venice, Florence, Padua, Assisi, Verona, Vicenza, Siena and Fiesole. The courses taught included: Drawing and Painting in Tuscany, Theatre History in Renaissance Italy, and Interdisciplinary Principles of Humanities.

  • Greece Trip
    2009 Summer Study
    GreeceJune 23 - July 6, 2009

    Students and faculty in Greece focused on the culture, history and mythology of Greece. The trip included visits to Athens (Acropolis and Agora and National Archeological Museum), Corinth, Delphi, Olympia, Mycenae and Tiryns, Nafplio, Hydra, Epidaurus, and a week in Paralio Astros, a sea-side village in southern Greece.

  • Hawaii Trip
    2008 Summer Study
    PeruMay 20 - June 2, 2008

    Students studied information technology, Latin American culture and civilization, intermediate Spanish and transcultural healthcare in Cajamarca, a city in the middle of the Andean mountains. The city has a rich history - it was where the last Inca was taken prisoner - and students explored its past as well as other Peruvian sites.

  • England Scotland Trip
    2008 Summer Study
    Scotland and EnglandJune 24 - July 9, 2008

    Students spent eleven days in London and three in Edinburgh studying history, theatre and philosophy. Students visited famous sites like Westminster Abbey, toured historic houses and castles like the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, saw great works of art in the British Museum and the National Gallery, and experienced live theatre in the famous West End and in a reconstruction of Shakespeare's Globe.
