Blackboard Content System
WebDAV
What is WebDAV?
WebDAV, (Web Distributed Authoring
and Versioning),
makes it easy to upload, save, share, and revise
files. With
WebDAV, multiple files can be easily and
quickly uploaded to a CS folder by simply dragging
a folder containing the files to your CS folder.
You can access your CS folder without having to
log into Blackboard. For Windows users, after you first access a
CS folder with WebDAV, a path to the folder will be
saved in the "My Network Places" area on your
computer. The next time you wish to access the
CS folder, double-click the "My Network Places"
icon on your computer's desktop, then double-click
the WebDAV folder you wish to open.
Some programs like Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
will allow you to open a file in the CS folder,
edit it, and then save it directly back to the CS
folder.
Examples of Uses
- With WebDAV, an instructor can upload files
more quickly to Blackboard by putting all of
the files for a course into one folder and
dragging that folder to the CS folder instead of uploading one file at a
time.
- Individuals working together on a shared
course or project can put their files into a CS
folder that they can all access. Once each
person accesses the folder with WebDAV, a path
to the shared folder will be saved to each
person's computer desktop. The content in
the folder can then be easily viewed and edited
from a link on the user's desktop instead of
accessing Blackboard directly.
As soon as one person edits a file and saves it,
the others in the group will be able to view the
revised version.
Tutorials
Note:
If you do not already have
Flash Player installed on your
computer, you will need to download it before
viewing the animations. The animations are
best viewed at a screen resolution of 1024x768 or
higher; if your resolution is 800x600, you will have
to scroll to see the entire image. A control bar at the
bottom of the page will allow you to pause, rewind,
and replay each animation if needed.
The tutorials should be viewed in order as each builds
upon the previous one.
