Calling all BOO members!
Join us on February 10th and 11th from 12:00pm to 4:00pm outside the Midlothian Library on the second floor of Hamel Hall in Commit to Complete, an event hosted by the BOO Chapter to encourage all JTCC students to complete an education at John Tyler!
There are always barriers that can get in the way of degree completion, but PTK has collaborated to provide information to all students to help in this process.
We will have information on numerous programs here at John Tyler as well as other resources to help you along your journey to completing an education.
Attendants will also get to sign our Commit to Complete board, which will also be displayed when students graduate. Hot chocolate and cookies will be provided!
Please contact officers or advisors for information on volunteering for Commit to Complete. These projects do not reach their full potential without the help of members! Please volunteer what time you can. Thank you.
The blood drive originally scheduled for January 22, 2014 will now be held on Tuesday, February 18th 2014 in Hamel Hall, room H109 from 10a.m.-4p.m.
Pre-registration will begin on Tuesday, February 11th and continue until the 17th. The sign-up sheets will be available outside of the library on the second floor of Hamel Hall. Volunteers are needed to staff the sign-up tables. Please stop by and help whenever you are available.
If you would like more information on donating blood or volunteering for the pre-registration tables, please contact any of the chapter officers or advisors.
Want to help John Tyler and the local community at the same time? Support BOO and the Virginia Blood Services by volunteering your time and/or blood to help folks all around the state.
BOO is looking for volunteers to help staff the sign-up table on 1/15, 1/16, and 1/21. It is much easier to get people to register when there is someone to tell them why donating blood is so important! The sign-up table is located outside the Midlothian library on the second floor of Hamel Hall. Contact Molli Channell or Dr. John Kirn for more information on how you can help. And remember- you can use this volunteer time towards your free tassel courtesy of BOO!
The blood drive will be held on Wednesday, January 22nd from 10a.m.-4p.m. in Hamel Hall, room H109. If you are available to donate, please sign-up at the table and visit us on the 22nd.
Thank you for your time and help!

Our next PTK Officers meeting is Thursday, 10/24 at 4:00 in Eliades Hall, E301. While we call it an officers meeting, it is for ALL MEMBERS. I know many of you who have recently joined are anxious to get involved. This is your chance. We will be planning events for the remainder of the year and discussing what we’d like to do in the spring as well. Please come by and help us!! You’ll also be able to meet our newest PTK faculty adviser, Ms. Molli Channell, who is a research librarian and technology guru at the Midlo library! Email me [Dr. Kirn, firstname.lastname@example.org] if you have any questions. See you there!
During the first few weeks of November, PTK will be collecting canned food items to help provide a Thanksgiving dinner for the families of one or more needy John Tyler students. The collection box will be outside Dr. Vaccarella’s office in Eliades Hall–E320C. Among the items you can bring are canned vegetables, boxes of stuffing, canned fruit, boxes of cookies, potatoes or instant potatoes, and gravy packets or canned gravy. Last year a local business donated the turkies and we hope that will happen again. More information will be posted at the end of this week. Please participate and help the families of fellow students.
On Tuesday, October 8th, from 9 AM – 1:30 PM, PTK will have a table on the second floor of Eliades Hall (opposite the Art Club pizza sale) to collect supplies to send to our troops in Afghanistan. The items that are particularly needed are toothpaste, toiletries, and baby wipes. Also, there will be art supplies at the table for you to make a CARD for the troops. If you can help staff the table, even for a half hour, please contact April Painter at email@example.com. If you cannot, be sure to drop off your items for the troops. You know they will be appreciated!
