General Information: John Tyler Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education and one of the largest of the 23 community colleges in Virginia. Responsibilities: John Tyler Community College is seeking to hire a full time, twelve-month faculty member who will serve as Program Head/Director for the Funeral Service Programs. The successful candidate will teach funeral service courses in an online, and/or hybrid format; provide leadership and administrative oversight of the program to include: hiring and evaluating part-time faculty, creating course schedules, leading the assessment of student learning outcomes and program goals, ensuring compliance with the accreditation standards, managing the Funeral Service Advisory Committee, providing student advising, and participation in all college activities and assigned committees. Responsible for ensuring that the programs meet the guidelines of the American Board of Funeral Service Educators (ABFSE) as well as the Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers. Representing John Tyler’s Funeral Service program to the community and maintaining strong and positive relationships with external agencies. Prepare faculty and students for the future of Funeral Services. This position reports to the Dean of Science, Health and Human Services and is located on the Chester campus.

Qualifications: Required: Must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Candidates who do not have a Master’s degree must commit to earning a Master’s degree in a related field within five years of the date of hire. Must have graduated from an accredited mortuary program and have at least two years of work experience in the funeral services industry. Must be licensed or able to obtain a license in Virginia. The successful candidate will be committed to student success and to developing strong partnerships within the Virginia Community College system and with members of the funeral services industry. The successful candidate must be willing to teach a combination of day, evening, weekend, and online classes with the ability to be flexible to work at both of the two College campuses. Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check will be required. Preferred qualifications: Experience Master's degree strongly preferred. Experience teaching in higher education highly desirable.
