CHESTER and MIDLOTHIAN, Va. – On October 23, 2019, John Tyler Community College (JTCC) Foundation launched the public phase of a major gifts fundraising campaign, Next Up: A Campaign for Tyler. The campaign is designed to raise financial resources to support the college’s vision of a success story for every student and to strengthen the local economy through development of a career-ready workforce. The campaign focuses on three areas:

  • Student Success – expanding JTCC Foundation and college programs that support scholarships and financial assistance, as well as advising, tutoring, and career and transfer guidance for students.
  • Workforce Development – enriching our region by strengthening our workforce of highly-trained, adaptable employees through the development of programs in emerging fields; state-of-the-art equipment and learning spaces; and expansion of high-demand programs.
  • Endowment – investing in Tyler to strengthen the resources available to the college and its students now and in the future.

During the launch event on the college’s Chester Campus, the JTCC Foundation thanked its lead donors who have already contributed more than $3 million to the campaign. The JTCC Foundation Board, individuals, businesses and local charitable foundations have invested in the college and its students through gifts to the campaign. The Foundation also announced a new challenge issued by a donor who will match dollar for dollar the next $25,000 raised during the public phase of the campaign.

“Donors who invest in our campaign will be supporting Tyler students and helping the college provide programs that meet changing workforce needs,” said Peter Eliades, member and past president of the JTCC Foundation Board and member of the campaign leadership committee. “I’m excited to invite our community to join me in supporting this important community resource.”

Launch party attendees got to also engage in student demonstrations and tour the renovated Bird Hall and Nicholas Center as well as the brand new William H. Talley, III Center for Workforce Development, the college’s recent $34 million project that the Next Up Campaign helped fund.
The community is invited to learn more about Next Up: A Campaign for Tyler by visiting or by contacting Jessica Will, director of development, at or 804-594-1475.

The JTCC Foundation secures resources that provide scholarships for students; fund academic programs, student support services, capital projects, and renovations to modernize classrooms and labs; and stimulate innovation within the college faculty and staff. This work ensures the college continues its pledge of providing academic excellence to students while expanding the services it offers to meet the community’s workforce requirements. Since most of the College’s graduates live and work in the area, gifts to the Foundation are an investment in both students and the community.

John Tyler Community College offers more than 75 majors that provide pathways to careers in high-demand fields; transfer opportunities to four-year colleges and universities; and industry credentials and licensures. The college, with campuses in Chester and Midlothian, online classes, and off-campus classrooms, served more than 14,000 students during the 2018-19 academic year. It also assisted more than 7,000 learners through its workforce development division, Community College Workforce Alliance, a partnership between Tyler and Reynolds community colleges.
