CHESTER and MIDLOTHIAN, Va. – Each year, the John Tyler Community College (JTCC) Foundation’s scholarship program helps new and returning JTCC students. The program provides thousands of dollars in support by offering a wide variety of need- and merit-based scholarships; general and major-specific scholarships; and scholarships for students living in specific localities.

The JTCC Foundation is now accepting applications for its 2020-2021 academic year scholarships. To be considered for a scholarship, an applicant must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Be a current or prospective student planning to attend Tyler during the 2020-2021 academic year. High school seniors, who will graduate in 2020 and plan to start Tyler in Fall 2020, are encouraged to apply.
  • Earn a 2.5 minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA).
  • Enroll in a certificate and/or degree program at Tyler by the first day of the Fall 2020 semester. A list of Tyler’s majors may be found at
  • Have in-state tuition status.

Additional information about the JTCC Foundation scholarship program, including details about the application process and a link to the online application may be found at

Students applying for Study Abroad Scholarships must submit their completed application no later than March 16, 2020. For all other JTCC Foundation scholarships, completed applications are due by April 15, 2020.

Questions about scholarships and the scholarship application may be directed to Eddie Webster, scholarship program administrator, at

The JTCC Foundation secures resources that provide scholarships for students; fund academic programs, student support services, capital projects, and renovations to modernize classrooms and labs; and stimulate innovation within the college faculty and staff. This work ensures the college continues its pledge of providing academic excellence to students while expanding the services it offers to meet the community’s workforce requirements. Since most of the College’s graduates live and work in the area, gifts to the Foundation are an investment in both students and the community.

John Tyler Community College offers more than 75 majors that provide pathways to careers in high-demand fields; transfer opportunities to four-year colleges and universities; and industry credentials and licensures. The college, with campuses in Chester and Midlothian, online classes, and off-campus classrooms, served more than 14,000 students during the 2018-19 academic year. It also assisted more than 7,000 learners through its workforce development division, Community College Workforce Alliance, a partnership between Tyler and Reynolds community colleges.
