The HBCU Experience

Posted on March 16, 2018

By Holly Walker

Join us on March 22 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., and learn about Virginia’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and how starting at John Tyler Community College can lead you to your very own HBCU experience!

Representatives from Virginia State University, Norfolk State University, Hampton University, Virginia Union University, and Virginia University of Lynchburg will be on hand to discuss their institutions and answer your questions. You’ll have the opportunity to talk to college recruiters, Tyler transfer students, and HBCU alum, as well as representatives from student groups. Staff from Tyler will also be available to discuss how starting at JTCC and then transferring to a HBCU can build an affordable pathway for your education.

The event will be held inside the Nicholas Center at Tyler’s Chester Campus.

Current Tyler students and students at other VCCS institutions interested in learning about onsite admissions opportunities will need to apply in advance of the event. Contact Lakeita McCoy-Clarkson at or 804-706-5166 to learn more about this application process.

The HBCU Experience is sponsored by Tyler’s Council for Diversity and Inclusion.
