CHESTER and MIDLOTHIAN, Va. –  Calling all future writers, scientists, engineers, computer programmers, artists, machinists, nurses, and any elementary, middle and high school-aged student who likes getting creative and enjoys hands-on learning. Explore your interests, and expand your talents by signing up for a summer camp at John Tyler Community College. 

This year, the college is offering a series of one-week Explore Camps, covering topics such as IT, medical science, and illustration. The college is also offering two-week Experience Camps, during which students can earn industry certifications. The camps, offered in high-tech and collaborative learning spaces at Tyler, will give students a fun and engaging way to try out a future career, learn a new skill, and discover their interests.

For young science, technology, engineering, mathematics and health (STEM-H) enthusiasts, Tyler is once again partnering with the MathScience Innovation Center (MSiC) to bring more than 10 adventure-packed classes to Tyler in July as part of MSiC’s Camp Innovation. These camps are open to rising 4th through 9th graders and will be offered in half-day and full-day formats at Tyler’s Midlothian campuses. Additional STEM-H camp options may be found through the Community College Workforce Alliance (CCWA). CCWA, a partnership between John Tyler Community College and Reynolds Community College, is offering summer campus in June, July and August for students ages eight through 12. John Tyler Community College offers more than 60 majors that provide pathways to careers in high-demand fields; transfer opportunities to four-year colleges and universities; and industry credentials and licensures. The college, with campuses in Chester and Midlothian, a Nursing Education Center, online classes, and off-campus classrooms, served more than 13,900 students during the 2016-17 academic year. It also assisted nearly 6,000 learners and more than 200 companies and organizations through its workforce development division, Community College Workforce Alliance.
