Future Preschool Teacher

If you are new-to-college and interested in becoming a preschool teacher, Tyer offers the following programs:

Early Childhood Career Studies Certificate
Early Childhood Development Certificate
Early Childhood Development Associate of Applied Science

If you are new-to-college and interested in becoming a public school teacher, Tyler offers the following programs:

General Studies, Teacher Education Specialization in Elementary (K-6)
General Studies, Secondary Teacher Education Specialization in Mathematics Associate of Science
Liberal Arts, Secondary Teacher Education Specialization in English Associate of Arts
Liberal Arts, Secondary Teacher Education Specialization in History Associate of Arts

Switching careers?

Future K-12 Teacher

If you have a college degree and you are interested in becoming a public school teacher, JTCC's Community College Workforce Alliance (CCWA) offers training and services through EducateVA. Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree (with a minimum GPA of 2.5), have 5 years of full-time professional work experience, and have passed the PRAXIS Subject Assessment as well as the VCLA.

Needing professional development?

Current K-12 Teacher

If you are currently teaching and want to earn professional development points, JTCC offers a variety of recertification courses. Some examples include the following: Teaching Exceptional Children, Introduction to Autism Spectrum Disorders, and Classroom Management.
