In Prince Edward County, VA, an African American student strike for better school facilities in 1951 developed into one of the five consolidated cases before the United States Supreme Coutry in Brown v. Board of Education. Prince Edward County then chose the extreme stance of closing their public schools entirely from 1959-1964 rather than comply with the Court's ruling to desegregate. Dr. Daugherity will discuss his latest book: a collection of primary sources representing the diverse voices of the battle in Prince Edward County for-and against-educational equality.

Light refreshments will be served. All Faculty, Staff, and Students are Encouraged to Attend!

Contact John Kirn (jkirn@jtcc.edu) or Greg Hansard (ghansard@jtcc.edu) for more information!
