The Advising Center continues to offer its services remotely, and new and current students are encouraged to access these services from off campus. The Advising Center is also providing on-campus assistance for students who are unable to access services remotely. 

Remote Assistance

To connect with staff remotely, email or call 804-706-5224 for the Chester office and 804-594-1558. You can also contact advising through Navigate, available in the myTyler portal. Staff are available virtually:

Monday – Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Emails and phone messages will receive a response within 24 hours.

On-Campus Assistance

Staff will be available to assist students in-person at the Chester and Midlothian campuses:

Monday – Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Only one student will be allowed in each in-person appointment; family members and guests will be asked to wait outside the building. Each session should be approximately 30 minutes. Students can bring unofficial transcripts to their appointment for advising purposes. All visitors must follow Tyler's safety protocols on campus.

Tyler Advising Centers have academic/career advisors and professional counselors to assist you with educational, career and life planning.

Advising Center staff provide:

  • Academic advising, primarily for first semester and undeclared students
  • Assistance with changing or declaring a major
  • Information on transferring
  • Placement test results interpretation
  • Guidance on academic policies and procedures
  • Assignment of faculty advisors
  • Career and life skills workshops throughout the semester, such as:
    • Time management
    • Stress management
    • Test taking
    • Critical thinking skills
  • Community resource referrals
