Upcoming Events

Wednesday, November 13th: "How to Research" -- The How to Research Workshop is a collaboration between the Academic Resource Center (ARC)  and the Library. Together, we aim to emphasize the importance of research skills and the different ways to research. The workshop is beneficial because it gives students a chance to understand the different dynamics of research along with learning how to use the John Tyler database. The workshop will take place on both campuses in the library lab at 1pm. 

Wednesday, November 13th: "NBA Viewing Party" -- We will be hosting the NBA viewing party in the Student Lounge at the Midlothian campus. Join us to watch the L.A Clippers vs. Houston Rockets, we will provide refreshments. The event is from 7pm-10pm.

Friday & Saturday, November 15th & 16th: "Old Dominion Postcard Club 42nd Annual Show & Sale --  The Postcard Club Show & Sale show will be held at the Nicholas Center on the Chester campus. Admission is free for Tyler students with their student ID. On Friday the show will be held from 10am-6pm and on Saturday from 10am-5pm. Here's some fun facts about the event: 20 + Dealers - Millions of Postcards! Club exhibit board competititon ($3 donation to participate). Everyone welcome -bring your postcards for free evaluation. 

Monday, November 18th: "UnDecorate-A-Tree" -- Our 3rd annual UnDecorate-A-Tree Campaign will begin on the 18th. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to pick gift requests from the tree, purchase the gifts and returned them (gifts can be wrapped) to the Office of Student Activities (Midlothian- Hamel Hall, room H103; Chester- Moyar Hall, room M110). Gift requests can be made by emailing Michelle Spencer at All gift requests should be for current Tyler Students who have children. Please keep gift request to 1-3 gifts per child and under $25 per gift. 

Monday, November 18th: "Who Said That? APA and MLA Citation" -- Not sure how to create flawless citations?  Join the Tyler Libraries to learn about accessing citations from the library databases, resources to create and correct citations, and learn general information on formatting in APA and MLA styles. This workshop will take place at the Chester campus library at 2pm. 

All Semester: "College Night @Laser Quest" -- All Tyler students are invited to participate in Laser Quest Night between 6pm-9pm on Wednesdays & Thursdays for the discounted price of $6.50 per game. You must present your Student ID. 

All Semester: "Recreational Swimming" -- Participate in recreational swimming at Virginia State University, Daniel’s Gymnasium pool between the times of 7pm-10pm.  You must present your Student ID.

Intramural Sports 

To register for all intramuaral sports you must be logged into your student email account. 

Volleyball Club: "Sign-Up Today" -- We're looking to start-up a Volleyball club here at Tyler. The club will meet 1 or 2 times a week. Joining this club is a great way to stay active and meet new people. Participants can be of any skill level. Sign-up by emailing

Flag Football: "Sign-Up Today"-- The season will start on October 16th and games will be held on the Midlothian campus on the quad (between t-building & Hamel Hall). Games will be held on Wednesdays from 5:15pm-6:15pm. Click HERE to register!

Soccer Intramurals: "Sign-Up Today" -- Soccer intramurals starts September 23rd and will be held at the Chester campus on the soccer field. We are currently holding official practices on Mondays from 5:15pm-6:15pm. Email if you're interested in participating or just come to practice.

Student ID's

Student IDs can be picked up from the Office of Student Activities during normal business hours. There is no charge for a student ID. Student IDs may also be required to attend certain student activities on campus.
