August

Wednesday, Aug. 12th: "Is boring art just boring?" -- Conversation club invites students, faculty and staff to join in various topics on several Wednesdays throughout the month at 3pm. This week's session will entail the following: Have you ever seen a piece of art and felt lost? Felt like you didn't "get it?" I know I have. Without knowing the full context, or even with knowing that information sometimes, art is a complicated beast. This article highlights the disparities within the art community on the meaning of art, the meaning of reactions to art, and the meaning of how other people react to criticism of art. It's a tad dry, but it's short, and it can lead to a great discussion on the subjective nature of art and the meanings we place on it. To access the article, click here. You'll need to log in using your myTyler credentials. Once you're logged in, accept the terms and conditions; then you can Download PDF. Zoom link for the virtual event will be available soon.

Aug. 24th – 28th: Virtual Spirit Week – take a photo attending your virtual course, on campus, or a textbook that you have purchased. Post the photo on your social media platform and tag Tyler’s Student Activities page (IG - @JTCCSGA or Facebook – JTCC Student Activities)

Wednesday, Aug. 26th: "Is boring art just boring?" -- Conversation club invites students, faculty and staff to join in various topics on several Wednesdays throughout the month at 3pm. This week's session will entail the following:  This one's short but sweet. Louisiana governor John Bel Edwards has signed a bill into law that will have the state adopt Daylight Saving Time year-round. The bill was sponsored by state representative Dodie Horton. Horton cited a number of motivating factors for the bill, including people's mood and crime rates. This law is subject to federal approval and will only go into effect if the US Congress amends current federal allow to allow individual states to decide if they adopt Daylight Saving Time as their year-round standard time. Check out the article here. Zoom link for the virtual event will be available soon.
