Tuesday, October 8th: "Liar, Liar Pants on Fire! Evaluating Sources in the Age of Misinformation" -- Unsure what sources to rely on for credible information?  Join the Tyler Libraries to learn how to identify and avoid sources of both misinformation and disinformation and different evaluation methods to use when performing research. The workshop will be held at the Midlothian campus library at 11:30am.

Wednesday, October 9th: "Baby Shower" -- We're hosting a babyshower event for current students who are expecting moms. The event will be held on October 9th from 3:30pm-5pm in Bird Hall room B111 at the Chester campus. There will be giveaways and refreshments available. Wednesday, October 9th: "Engineering Transfer NIght" -- Those interested in exploring education options for engineering and computer science should attend the event. Attendees will have the opportunities to explore Tyler’s programs and find out how starting in those programs can save them money on a bachelor’s degree. Students will also learn about guaranteed admissions agreements. Students will also have the opportunity to meet some of Tyler’s four-year college and university partners including Christopher Newport University, George Mason University, James Madison University, Old Dominion University, University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia State University, and Virginia Tech. The event will take place in the Lynn Theatre from 6:30pm-8:30pm. Contact Dr. Anna Bampton, at abampton@jtcc.edu for any questions.

Wednesday, October 9th: "Summary vs. Analysis" -- The goal of the Summary vs Analysis Workshop is to emphasize the differences between the two concepts. The workshop is beneficial to students because the concepts are typically discussed throughout college courses and it uses examples to help students familiarize and differentiate between Summary and Analysis. The workshop will be held at both campuses in the library lab at 1pm.

Friday, October 11th: "Summary vs. Analysis" -- The goal of the Summary vs Analysis Workshop is to emphasize the differences between the two concepts. Monday, October 14th: "Personal Finance Workshop: Managing Debt" -- Virginia Asset Management will be on campus offering important advice on managing your debt. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn valuable life skills and free yourself from the burden of debt. The workshop will be held in the Midlothian library computer lab from 12:30pm-1:30pm. 

Monday, October 14th: "NFL Viewing Party" -- Students, faculty and staff are invited to watch Lions vs. Packers from 7:30pm-10pm at the Midlothian campus in the Student Lounge on our big screen TV's. Participate in NFL Bingo to have a chance to win cool JTCC SWAG. Refreshments will be available.

Friday, October 18th: "Spooktacular" Fall Festival -- Enjoy the JTCC fall festival that features hauted houses, candy trail, haunted carols, etc. The event will take place on the Midlothian campus inside and outside of the T-building. 

Monday, October 21st: "Laser Quest Night" -- All students are invited to participate in Laser Quest Night. The event is free and will be held from 6pm-9pm. Laser Quest is located at 889 Research Road. Students, faculty and staff must REGISTER!

Friday, October 31st: "Halloween Costume Contest" -- Wear your best Halloween costume. Participants need to drop by the student activities office and take a photo to enter in the contest. The top 3 costumes from each campus will win some cool JTCC SWAG.

Every Tuesday & Thursday: "Pick-Up & Play" -- Between classes pick-up a soccer ball, football, frisbees or play corn-hole, Jenga, Connect 4, skiball and disc golf with your classmates on the lawn. Equipment will be located on the Quad area at the Midlothian campus & between Moyar and Godwin at the Chester campus from 11am-2pm.

All Semester: "Board Games & Sport Equipment Rental" -- Stop by the Office of Student Activities to check out your favorite board games and/or sport equipment. All you need is your Student ID. 

All Semester: Recreational Swimming -- Participate in recreational swimming at Virginia State University, Daniel’s Gymnasium pool between the times of 7pm-10pm. You must present your Student ID.

All Semester: "College Night @Laser Quest" -- All Tyler students are invited to participate in Laser Quest Night between 6pm-9pm on Wednesdays & Thursdays for the discounted price of $6.50 per game. You must present your Student ID.

Tuesday, November 5th: "Building Your Brand: How to Create a LinkedIn Profile" -- More and more recruiters are using LinkedIn to find employees. Learn about how to make a profile, use their job search tool, find and connect with Tyler alumni, and research companies you are interested in working for. The workshop will be held in the Chester library conference room from 12:30pm-1:30pm.

The workshop will take place on both campuses in the library lab at 1pm.

Friday & Saturday, November 15th & 16th: "Old Dominion Postcard Club 42nd Annual Show & Sale --  The Postcard Club Show & Sale show will be held at the Nicholas Center on the Chester campus. Admission is free for Tyler students with their student ID. On Friday the show will be held from 10am-6pm and on Saturday from 10am-5pm. Here's some fun facts about the event: 20 + Dealers - Millions of Postcards! Club exhibit board competititon ($3 donation to participate). Everyone welcome -bring your postcards for free evaluation. 

Monday, November 18th: "Who Said That? APA and MLA Citation" -- Not sure how to create flawless citations?  Join the Tyler Libraries to learn about accessing citations from the library databases, resources to create and correct citations, and learn general information on formatting in APA and MLA styles. This workshop will take place at the Chester campus library at 2pm.

Friday, Novemeber 22nd: "Nursing and Health Sciences Career Fair" -- Do you have a major in the health sciences career cluster (nursing, nurse aide, EMS, massage therapy, funeral services, EMS, dietary manager)? Come meet our great employers and learn about career opportunities. Open to all students, alumni and community members. Registration not required. Business casual dress preferred (no jeans or t-shirts). This event will be held on November 22nd on the Chester campus in the Nicholas Center.
