What is a CLEP test?
The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) gives you the opportunity to receive college credit for what you already know, by earning qualifying scores on any one or more of the 35 CLEP examinations. A total of 2,900 colleges and universities in the United States, including John Tyler Community College, will recognize your comprehensive subject knowledge acquired through independent or prior study, on-the-job training, professional development, cultural pursuits, or internships. Please note, however, that CLEP examinations with an optional essay are not given at John Tyler.

Who can take a CLEP test at John Tyler?
Any student currently enrolled at John Tyler community College or another Virginia community college may take a CLEP test at the College.
Where are CLEP tests offered at John Tyler?
CLEP tests are only administered at the Chester Campus Testing Center (Trailers B1/B2) during pre-arranged times. A photo ID must be presented at the time of the test.
How much does a CLEP test cost?
Each CLEP test taken at JTCC costs $85.00, and you must pay in advance when you register for your test.
How do I register for a CLEP test at John Tyler Community College?
Register and pay your exam fees at https://clepportal.collegeboard.org/myaccount. When you register, you must select who should receive your test scores and answer background questions.
After you register and pay, you will receive an automated e-mail confirming your registration and alerting you to print the registration ticket along with other pre/post-test day reminders. A CLEP registration is valid for six months. The expiration date will be printed on your ticket. This registration ticket also acts as a voucher and will need to be printed in advance and presented to the Testing Center on the day of your scheduled appointment.
How do I schedule an appointment to take a CLEP test at John Tyler Community College?
Candidates must also submit a John Tyler Community College CLEP Testing Application in addition to registering and paying their exam fee in order to schedule an appointment.
Complete the CLEP Testing Application and e-mail it to email@example.com. You can also mail or bring your form to the Testing Center in Trailers B1/B2 at the Chester Campus. CLEP test appointments can be scheduled no later than one week prior to the date you would like to take your CLEP test.
Once your application has been received the Testing Center will send you a confirmation e-mail verifying your CLEP test appointment has been scheduled.
Testing Centers at John Tyler do not create registrations or collect payment for exam fees.
Candidates requesting testing accommodations are advised to contact a test administrator at firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss their needs well in advance of their proposed test date. How can I prepare for a CLEP test?
The CLEP Official Study Guide is the only CLEP study guide with sample questions for all CLEP exams. It contains descriptions of the exams, sample questions and answers for each exam, test-taking tips, and more. You can order the guide at the College Board’s web site. If you are taking a CLEP test which is the equivalent of a class taught at John Tyler, you can obtain a copy of the textbook used for that course from the bookstore and use that as basis for reviewing for the CLEP examination.
